RM was the first member to be recruited by Big Hit Entertainment in 2010 during a Big Hit talent audition. Before joining the company, he was an underground rapper named Runch Randa in the Korean hip-hop group Black Pirates and later became part of another hip-hop crew DaeNamHyup (DNH).
Other than Runch Randa, RM used the names Largo and The Nexsist before debuting as Rap Monster, the leader and main rapper of BTS. In 2017, he changed his stage name to RM, explaining that the former name no longer represented who he was or the music he created. Once asked what RM stood for, he said it could stand for many things, and at that moment, it was “Real Me.”
RM is known for being a formidable rapper and genius lyricist. American hip-hop magazine XXL described him as “one of the region’s most dexterous rappers, capable of switching flows effortlessly as he glides across an array of diverse instrumentals.” His lyrics often feature clever word-play and beautiful imagery; many also show the listeners his introspective personality.
RM released his first mixtape, RM, in 2015 and second mixtape/extended playlist, Mono, in 2018. Besides his fellow BTS members and other labelmates, his collaboration list includes many artists, namely, Wale, Warren G, Krizz Kaliko, Steve Aoki, Tiger JK, Honne, Lil Nas X, Fall Out Boy and Younha.
RM’s work studio is now called RKive which was previously named Mon Studio. He is well known for his large input in songwriting and production of BTS’ discography. In 2020, he was promoted to a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), and as of June 21, 2020, he has 161 songs accredited to his name by the association, including the critically acclaimed BTS songs “Spring Day” and “Blood Sweat & Tears.”
Kim Namjoon was born in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do. His family consists of his father, mother, a younger sister, and his dog Rapmon.
Besides Korean, Namjoon can speak fluently in English, which he taught himself by watching the TV show Friends. He has an IQ of 148 and scored in the top 1.3% of Korea’s competitive mock university entrance examinations. He is currently enrolled in an online university pursuing his master’s degree.
Namjoon has been to many different countries, one of which is New Zealand where he studied for a short period of time. There are many things he appreciates, such as fashion, books, biking, woodwork, and art. He is a huge fan of KAWS and has a massive figurine collection. He loves nature and likes to befriend sea animals, especially crabs.
Full name: Kim Seokjin (김석진)
Birthdate: December 4, 1992
Jin is the oldest and the fourth member to join BTS. He was scouted on the street by a Big Hit Entertainment casting agent, who asked him to audition. He decided to become a trainee, and debuted as a vocalist in BTS. He had to learn singing and dancing from scratch to become a BTS member because his initial goal was to become an actor.
Jin is a tenor (range F3-D4) and is known for his “silver voice” and for having the kind of breathing “so stable that he can easily switch from his head voice to his chest voice, still equipped with a natural vibrato and pleasing falsetto which is an extremely strong advantage” (source: BTS: The Review by Kim Young-Dae).
Jin released his first co-produced solo track, “Awake,” as part of the BTS album WINGS in 2016, the lyrics representing his own personality (source: doolsetbangtan). He also sang “It’s Definitely You” (a.k.a. “Even if I Die It’s You”), released in the same year, with fellow BTS member V, as the second part OST of the Korean drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. Furthermore, he has collaborated with Charli XCX alongside the BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook. In 2019 he released his first self-written solo song “이 밤 (Tonight)” on Soundcloud; a song he wrote while thinking of his pets. He has also released many song covers on the same platform.

Jin was born in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do. His family consists of his father, mother, an older brother, and a sugar glider named Gukmul. He had a dog named Jjanggu and two sugar gliders named Odeng and Eomuk, but unfortunately, all of them have passed away.
In 2017, Jin completed his undergraduate degree and is now in a master’s program at an online university. His broad range of hobbies include gaming, fishing, collecting Super Mario toys, snowboarding (and other sports), and playing the guitar.
Jin is well-known for his knowledge of dad jokes, having a keen sense of humour, and being an ideal ice-breaker. He is an avid lover of food and a gifted cook; he hosts a show called Eat Jin on V LIVE, BANGTAN TV and Weverse where he eats Korean food and occasionally food from around the world.

Birthday: March 9, 1993
SUGA became a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment in 2010 after winning second place in the company’s “Hit It” rap audition competition. He was an underground rapper and originally planned to join the label as a music producer, but started training to become an idol and eventually debuted as the lead rapper of BTS.
During his days as an underground rapper, he performed under the stage name “Gloss” with a group called D-Town (DT). His current stage name “SUGA” came from the fact that he often occupied the “shooting guard” position in basketball when he was in school. He also uses an alias, Agust D, for his solo works. The name Agust D originates from the reversal of his stage name, SUGA, and the last two letters represent Daegu Town backwards.
SUGA is known for his mind-blowing delivery and raw, unfiltered emotions while rapping. His lyrics are brutally honest and often refer to his own experiences, and a study of these lyrics can reveal much of his life story that resonate with many listeners.
SUGA released his first mixtape, Agust D, in 2016, and second mixtape, D-2, in 2020. He has collaborated with many artists, namely, Tablo of Epik High, Lee Sora, IU, Max, and Halsey. He has also produced songs for other artists, namely, Suran, Heize, and IU. Furthermore, he and j-hope formed their unofficial, rapper-turned-vocalists subunit called SOPE.
SUGA’s studio at Big Hit goes by the name of Genius Lab. He is immensely involved in writing and producing BTS’ songs. In 2018, he was promoted to a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) and as of June 21, 2020, he has 115 songs accredited to his name by the association.
Min Yoongi was born in Buk-gu, Daegu. His family consists of his father, mother, an older brother, and his dog Holly.
When he was 13, Yoongi began to write lyrics and work with synthesizers. At one point, he got a part-time job at a recording studio to learn more about producing. Shortly after, he bought some equipment, began composing, producing, rapping, and eventually performing. The song “Fly” by Epik High was one of the many things that inspired him to become a rapper.
Yoongi is currently attending an online university pursuing his master’s degree. His interests include playing basketball and the piano, interior design, taking photos, fishing, and staying indoors. He stated that he feels the happiest while working in his studio.
Full Name: Jung Hoseok (Jeong Hoseok,정호석)
Birthday: February 18, 1994.
J-hope was the third member to join BTS. He chose the name “j-hope” because he wants to be a source of light and hope for his fans. He often introduces himself with “I’m your hope, you’re my hope, I’m j-hope.” He debuted as a main dancer and a rapper in BTS.
J-hope was already a well-known dancer before he debuted as a BTS member. He started dancing when he was very young and was part of an underground street dance team known as Neuron. There, he won underground dance battles and performed at festivals. As a dancer, j-hope plays a key role in choreographing dance moves for BTS while also contributing to the performance directing aspect of their music. He posts many of his dance practice videos under the title “Hope on the Street” on BTS’ official blog, YouTube, V LIVE, and Twitter.
According to Vocal Media and LemonWire, j-hope’s rap style has been described to be calm and melodic before it contrasts with a more aggressive tone and features sections of airy and whispered vocals. He keeps his floating landscape alive with higher pitched rhythms and is also very good at changing his speed and rhythm as he raps even when the beat is solid and unchanging.
J-hope dedicated one of his solo songs, “MAMA” (WINGS, 2016), to his mother for always supporting his dream, and released his first mixtape, Hope World, in 2018. He has collaborated with Becky G as well as Zara Larson, along with fellow BTS member V, for the BTS World Original Soundtrack. Previously mentioned, he is a part of the unofficial rapper-turned-vocalists subunit, SOPE, with fellow member SUGA.
J-hope’s studio at Big Hit shares the same name as his first mixtape, Hope World. Like the other rappers of the team, he is extremely involved in writing and producing BTS’ songs. In 2020, he was promoted to a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) and as of April 8, 2020, he has 104 songs accredited to his name by the association.
Jung Hoseok was born in Gwangju, Jeolla. His family consists of his father, mother, an older sister, and a dog named Mickey.
Hoseok is currently enrolled in an online university pursuing his master’s degree. He has an unique taste in fashion and does not shy away from trying out new styles. Like Namjoon, he is a huge fan of KAWS and loves to collect figurines. He mentioned that he is currently looking for a hobby and trying to find out what he likes.
Hoseok likes to make SFX noises, which is noticeable in all Run BTS! episodes. He is also a very organized person and has a bright personality. Namjoon often mentions him as the true leader of BTS since he is able to keep all of the members happy and motivated.
Full Name: Park Jimin (박지민)
Birthday: October 13, 1995
Jimin is the 3rd youngest and the final member to join BTS in 2012, who spent the least amount of time as a trainee. With a history in dance, he was encouraged by his dance instructor to audition. He majored in contemporary dance and took classes in modern dance, ballet and traditional Korean dance in high school. He debuted with BTS as the main dancer and lead vocalist.
Jimin is a countertenor and his range is E4 peaking at C#5. He is known for his signature high notes in BTS songs and sharp, simultaneously graceful dance moves. According to music critic Kim Young-Dae, he has a lovely vocal that gives off an adorable vibe, a “unique voice that cannot easily be copied with tender sensibility and smooth technique” (source).
In 2016, he co-wrote his first solo song, “Lie,” released on the BTS album WINGS. He also co-composed his solo song “약속 (Promise),” released on SoundCloud in late 2018. Recently Jimin, along with fellow BTS member Jung Kook, were featured on Lauv’s song “Who.” He has also collaborated with Charli XCX alongside fellow members Jin and Jung Kook.

Park Jimin was born in Busan. His family consists of his father, mother, and a younger brother; he had a pet dog named Ddosun, who has unfortunately passed away.
Jimin practiced different styles of martial arts throughout his childhood and has a black belt in Taekwondo and Kendo, a Japanese fencing style. He attended high school alongside Kim Taehyung (V) after he transferred to Seoul from his high school in Busan. He was one of the highest-ranked students before his debut, as well as class president for 9 years straight. He is currently enrolled in an online university pursuing his master’s degree.
Jimin’s hobbies include drawing (he has shown off some of his drawings to fans during a V LIVE), travelling, playing video games, and reading books, comics, and webtoons during his free time. He also loves hanging out with friends and taking polaroid pictures of his fellow BTS members, which earned him the name “Memory Squirrel of BTS” by ARMY.

Birthday: December 30, 1995
V, which stands for victory, is the second youngest and second last member to join the group. He was originally accompanying a classmate to a Big Hit audition but spontaneously auditioned, prompted by a staff member, and passed it. He then went on to join Big Hit as a trainee in 2011, but was not revealed to be an official member until right before their debut. V debuted as a vocalist in BTS, but during the promotions of their album Love Yourself: Tear in 2018, it was revealed that he had also officially become a lead dancer.
V is the only baritone vocalist in BTS (range C3~C4/C#4), known for his deep, soulful voice. He is often praised for his theatricality on stage and dazzling facial expressions while performing. He made his acting debut in the Korean historical TV drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016) and sang the second part OST of the drama, “It’s Definitely You” (a.k.a. “Even if I Die It’s You”), alongside fellow BTS member Jin. He has also collaborated with Zara Larsson alongside fellow member j-hope.
V co-wrote his first solo song “Stigma,” released on the BTS album WINGS in 2016. “네시 (4 O’CLOCK),” which he co-produced and sung with fellow member RM, was released through Soundcloud in 2017. In 2019, he released two solo songs on the same platform: “풍경 (Scenery)” and “Winter Bear,” for which he was the lyricist and sole composer. He also composed “Sweet Night” for the part 12 OST of the Korean drama Itaewon Class.

Kim Taehyung was born in Daegu. His family consists of his father, mother, a younger brother, a younger sister, as well as two dogs: Soonshim and Yeontan. He attended high school with Jimin and is currently enrolled in an online university pursuing his master’s degree.
Taehyung loves photography, fashion and art. He usually posts his artwork under the name Vante. He is a huge BTS rap line enthusiast and enjoys playing video games, horse riding, watching anime/animation films, and listening to jazz and classical music. He started playing the saxophone in middle school and continued on for nearly three years. Recently he has started playing the violin and is trying to learn the piano as well as painting.

Jung Kook Facts
Jung Kook is the youngest and the fifth member to join BTS. He started pursuing his dream of being a singer when he entered a TV music program held for aspiring vocalists called Superstar K. The audition had him scouted by 7 different entertainment companies. Out of all those companies, Jung Kook chose Big Hit Entertainment, as he was impressed by RM’s rapping skills, and became a trainee in early 2011. He debuted in the positions of lead dancer, main vocalist, sub-rapper, and center of BTS.
In 2012, the label sent Jung Kook to Los Angeles for two months to learn different styles of dancing. Due to being exceptionally talented in many areas, he is referred to as the “Golden Maknae” of the group.
Jung Kook is known to have a light, smooth, and mellow timber voice with a vocal range of G2-Bb5. His vocal type is light lyric tenor, which gives him an advantage of transitioning relatively well into falsetto.
Jung Kook’s first solo song was “Begin” (WINGS; 2016), which he dedicated to the BTS members whom he gives his utmost respect and thanks. In 2015, he participated in the “One Dream, One Korea” campaign, taking part in a song collaboration alongside numerous Korean artists in memory of the Korean War. “Still With You,” which he co-produced and sung, was released through Soundcloud in 2020. Beside his fellow BTS members and other labelmates, he has collaborated with many artists, namely, Lauv, Charli XCX, and Steve Aoki. He has also released many song covers on SoundCloud.

Beyond Jung Kook
Jeon Jung Kook was born in Busan. His family consists of his father, mother, an older brother, and a dog named Gureum. He is currently enrolled in an online university.
Jung Kook enjoys gaming and has posted about Overwatch on BTS’ official Twitter account. He has been practising his art skills through video editing (Golden Closet Film) and capturing moments of his members (Golden Closet Photography). He is talented not only in art, but also in sports, and has a red-black belt in Taekwondo. He is currently taking up boxing and also took an interest in learning to play the piano and guitar.
Jung Kook has stated that he wants to learn many skills, but has shared in one of his V LIVE’s that he would strive to improve more as an artist, whether it may be singing or dancing.
