Apple has two platforms:

  • iTunes: The music purchasing service; songs that are bought on iTunes contribute to the sales charts. It is pre-installed with all Apple devices; and can be installed in other devices through this link.

  • Apple Music: The music streaming service; streams from songs songs played on Apple Music contribute to domestic charts. On subscribing to Apple Music, one can add music and music videos to the music library from the Apple Music catalog.
    • To access iTunes and Apple Music, all Apple users need an Apple ID account.
    • How to create an Apple ID using the App Store application on Apple devices:

      1. Open the App Store.
      2. Click “Sign in.”
      3. Click “Create New Apple ID.”
        • If this option is not visible, please sign out of iCloud.
      4. Follow the onscreen steps.
      5. The email address provided will be your new Apple ID.
      6. Enter your credit card and billing information, then click “Next.” You can also choose to click “None.”
        • You will not be charged until a purchase is made.
      7. Confirm your phone number, then click “Next.”
      8. Verify your email address through the verification email sent by Apple to your inbox.

      How to create an Apple ID using the iTunes application on Windows PC:

      1. Open iTunes for Windows.
        • Ensure you have the latest version of the app; the link to download can be found on Apple’s official website.
      2. Click “Account” from the menu bar at the top of the computer screen, or at the top of the iTunes window.
      3. Click “Sign in.”
      4. Click “Create New Apple ID.”
      5. Follow the onscreen steps.
      6. The email address provided will be your new Apple ID.
      7. Enter your credit card and billing information, then click “Continue.” You can also choose to click “None.”
        • You will not be charged until a purchase is made.
      8. Verify your email address through the verification email sent by Apple to your inbox.

    • NOTE:
      • Creating an Apple ID on other Apple services or devices (e.g. Android) should follow similar steps as stated above. If not, the instructions will be provided onscreen.
      • After verifying the email address, your new Apple ID can be used to sign in to the App Store, and other Apple services such as iCloud.

How to purchase songs on iTunes:

Using iTunes Store with Apple devices:

  1. Open the iTunes Store app.
  2. Click “Music” located at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Find the song or album that you want to purchase.
  4. Click the price next to the song or album.
  5. Sign in with your Apple ID and enter your password to complete the purchase.

Using Apple Music Store with MAC:

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. Use the search bar to find the song or album that you want to purchase.
  3. Click the iTunes Store button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  4. Click the price next to the song or album to buy it.
  5. Sign in with your Apple ID and enter your password to complete the purchase.

NOTE:

  • To find the purchased music, open the Apple Music app and click “Library.”
  • To download the purchased music offline, click “Download.”
  • Purchase music from the iTunes Store if you do not want to subscribe to Apple Music.

Tips:

  • ARMY in the U.S. and PR are advised to purchase each song SEPARATELY.
  • Do NOT click “Complete My Album” at the top of the screen.
  • Since purchasing no less than 10 tracks from the same album is equivalent to 1 album sale, buying separately will not only contribute to the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, but also to the Billboard 200 Album Chart.
  • Gifting songs or albums do not count towards the Billboard charts.
