SPOTIFY Spotify is one of the largest music streaming services globally. It allows users access to millions of songs, podcasts, and other content from artists across the globe. It is available in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and many regions of Africa and Asia. Spotify offers two options to select from: free and premium subscriptions. How to make a playlist: iOS DEVICES: Open the Spotify app. Go to “Your Library.” Tap “Playlists,” and select “Create Playlist.” Name the playlist; the new playlist can be found in the Spotify library. Go to the new playlist, and press “Add Songs.” It will direct you to a search bar where the album or song can be searched. Tap the “+” icon on the right side of the track and the song will be added to the new playlist. Alternatively, the song can be searched in the search bar. Once searched for, tap the three dots on the right side of the track, and click “Add to playlist,” then create or choose a playlist to add to. You may duplicate a song by repeating steps 5 - 7, and then pressing “Add Anyway” when prompted. To change the position of the songs in a playlist, click the three dots on the top-right corner of the playlist. Choose “Edit,” then drag the songs into the place of your choice by holding the three lines on the right side of each track. ANDROID DEVICES: Open the Spotify app. Search for the desired song or album to stream by using the search bar. Tap the three dots on the upper right hand side. Select “Add to Playlist.” Select “New Playlist.” Name the playlist; the new playlist can be found in the Spotify library. To add duplicates, repeat steps 3 and 4, select an existing playlist, and click “Add Anyway” when prompted. Once all songs have been added, click the three dots on the top right to edit the playlist. Drag songs into place by holding the three lines on the right hand side of the song. DESKTOP APP AND WEB PLAYER: Search Spotify on your browser, or open the app on your desktop. Go to the side bar on the left where it shows your profile and the “Home,” “Search,” and “Your Library” icons; click “Create Playlist” or “New Playlist.” Name the playlist. Adding a description is optional but recommended; ensure the description, if added, includes the keywords you want to target (e.g. BTS, Bangtan Boys, title track or album name, etc.). Click “Create.” Add songs by searching for them and clicking “Add to Playlist.” Add the song multiple times to the same playlist or to other playlists by hovering over the track and pressing the three horizontal dots at the right corner, or by right clicking the track, selecting “Add to Playlist” on the drop down menu, then selecting an existing playlist, and clicking “Add Anyway” when prompted. Rearrange the tracks in the playlist by dragging and dropping them wherever preferred. How to stream: Open the Spotify app (or web player for desktop). Go to “Your Library.” Click on “Playlists.” Select a playlist to stream. Press “Play” or the “Play” icon. Switch playlists from time to time. NOTE: Spotify Free subscription follows the same steps as Premium with the exception of the options to download music and skip songs. There will also be 30-second ads played between a number of songs when using the free version. Please note that having a Spotify Premium account does not prevent the deletion of unauthentic streams. Bad streaming habits and patterns will result in the streams getting deleted regardless of the account type. Tips: The best way to stream on Spotify is to either use a pre-made playlist or your own. According to Spotify FAQ, playing a song for over 30 seconds will count as a stream. Do not loop songs for a long period of time as it will be considered as spam and such streams will be filtered out; however, you may loop your playlist if the device is going to be left unattended. It is your playlist and ultimately your choice of which variety of songs are played; however, if it is your preference to add only BTS’ songs, then select a couple of songs produced by individual members or their collaborations. Only streaming music listed under “BTS” may exhibit bot-like behavior. Do not mute the volume of the Spotify application while streaming. Possible solutions are to plug in headphones or earphones and leave it unattended, or to mute the device’s volume if using a web player. It is also recommended to interact with Spotify once every few hours, depending on the length of the playlist, by pausing or skipping a song to avoid bot-like behavior. Offline streaming and streaming downloaded songs are counted as valid streams; however, this option is only available to Premium users. It is highly recommended to not shuffle the playlist as that will change its predetermined order; thus, failing to promote the main track. When creating track focused playlists, add 2 - 3 other songs in between two consecutive focus tracks to avoid filtering of streams. Remixes of a song (e.g. “Dynamite” remixes) are treated as separate songs on Spotify; thus, different remixes of the same song can be played consecutively. However, please note that the streams of these remixes are combined for Billboard charts. To prevent Spotify from playing suggested songs once your song or the playlist ends, go to “Home,” click on “Settings,” select “Playback,” and turn off “Autoplay.” Sharing the song via texts or social media is important for the Spotify Viral 50 chart. You can also listen to songs by searching them up individually. For best results, use track focused playlists (e.g. “Black Swan” focused playlist). Why streaming on Spotify is important: By streaming BTS’ music on Spotify, their songs can be added to major playlists with thousands or even millions of followers which allows BTS to be heard by a larger audience. U.S. streams also contribute to the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts. NOTE: 1 equivalent album sale = 1,250 premium account streams = 3,750 free account streams.

Amazon Music Amazon Music is a music streaming platform operated by Amazon. There are four subscription options — Amazon Music Free, Amazon Prime Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Amazon Music HD. The Amazon Music app is available on desktop, iOS and Android devices, and also as a web player. How to make a playlist: iOS AND ANDROID DEVICES: Open the Amazon Music app on an iOS or Android device. Tap the “My Music” tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap “Create New Playlist.” Name the playlist and tap “Save.” Select the artists, albums, or songs to be added to the playlist by tapping the “+” icon next to their name. Tap the “-” icon to remove the artists, albums, or songs. If necessary, switch between categories at the top of the screen. Tap “Done.” To make changes to the playlist, tap the three dots under the album art at the top. A pop-up will appear. Tap “Add more songs” to reopen the ‘add music’ page, or “Edit” to make changes. Tap the red “-” icon next to a song to delete it; songs can be added from this page as well. Tap “Done” when finished with the changes. DESKTOP APP AND WEB PLAYER: Open the Amazon Music desktop app or web player. Click “Create Playlist” on the right hand side in the desktop app, and on the left hand side in the web player. Name the playlist. Click “Save” to create an empty playlist under the title. Click “Explore & Add” to begin searching for and adding songs. To delete an added song, right-click on it and select “Remove from My Music” from the pop-up menu. To add a song to an existing playlist, right-click on it, select “Add to Playlist” from the pop-up menu, and then choose the desired playlist. How to stream on desktop: Log into your Amazon account. Click the box with the three parallel lines at the top left corner of the screen. Click “Amazon Music” to be redirected to the Amazon Music home page. Use the menu on the left side of the screen to create, access, or add playlists, and to search via an album, artist, or genre. The search bar at the top left will allow browsing through all titles available. How to stream on mobile: Download the Amazon Music app from the App Store or Google Play store. Launch the app. Enter your Amazon login information. Tap “Library” at the bottom of the app to get a customized home screen where new lists can be created, and playlists and recently added songs can be seen. The play or pause control will be displayed at the bottom of the screen while music is playing. Tap the three dots on the screen to receive more options, i.e., the option to download, share, and so on. NOTE: Amazon Music Unlimited and Amazon Prime Music songs can be downloaded for offline playback (Offline Mode) in the following way: Select the music (song, album, playlist, etc.) to be downloaded. Tap the three dots on the screen, and then tap “Download.” Amazon Music HD subscribers must re-download offline music to stream in HD or Ultra HD. Amazon Prime Music is only accessible within the Amazon Music app; thus, it is not possible to export titles for use on other apps and devices. Tips: Similar to Apple Music, songs purchased from the digital music section of Amazon must be deleted on Amazon Music for the stream to count. Avoid bot-like behavior. Do not loop a song or use only one playlist. Interact with the app by skipping songs, changing playlists, and so on. When creating track focused playlists, add 2 - 3 other songs in between two consecutive focus tracks to avoid filtering of streams. Do not shuffle the playlist as that will change its predetermined order; thus, failing to promote the main track. To add the same song to the same playlist more than once, simply tap “Yes” when prompted. Why streaming on Amazon Music is important: Streaming on Amazon Music is important for music charts, including Billboard, and helps boost BTS’ sales. Furthermore, popular tracks receive more exposure to the general public.

YOUTUBE YouTube is currently one of the biggest video streaming platforms in the world. It is a great space for people to share their creativity with the world as well as discover things they like, watch music videos, vlogs, shows, follow their favorite celebrities or YouTubers, and more.  How to stream: Open YouTube in the browser or use the YouTube app. Sign in to an account. Search for “BTS [title track]” in the search bar. Select the video. Play the entire music video in 480P quality or higher at normal speed. Watch 2 - 3 other videos (preferably official BTS content) in-between. Repeat step 3 - 6. NOTE: YouTube Free subscription follows the same steps as Premium with the exception of the options to watch videos without advertisements, download videos for offline viewing, listen to audio in the background with the YouTube Music app (iOS and Android), and access to exclusive content on YouTube and YouTube Music. Please note that having a YouTube Premium account does not prevent the deletion of unauthentic views. Bad streaming habits and patterns will result in the views getting deleted regardless of the account type. Tips: Avoid bot-like behavior by searching for the music video manually, turning off autoplay, interacting with the video, and so on. Do not stream on multiple windows or tabs if only one browser is being used; instead, stream on different browsers on the computer (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera) using a different YouTube account for each one. Please note that only one YouTube account per browser is counted for views. Do not use the replay button. Turn off autoplay. Do not watch the music video in incognito mode. Do not delete the watch history as it allows YouTube to search and include the views. You can skip ads. Continue streaming even if the view counter freezes; the views are still considered and will be updated later. Leave comments that are relevant to the video and refrain from spamming. Avoid streaming with playlists for the first 24 hours of the music video’s release. Volume does not affect views; however, do not mute the video sound on YouTube while streaming; instead, plug in headphones or earphones, or mute the device’s volume if using a computer Do not watch unofficial videos such as reactions and lyric videos, at least for the first 24 hours; streaming the official music video is the main priority. It is recommended to turn on the captions on the official music video for lyrics translation. Try to watch videos from other channels in between. We recommend watching BTS’ appearances on variety shows, talk shows, etc. from the respective official channels on YouTube. Views from embedded videos, such as those found in media articles and on Weverse, may be filtered; thus, please refrain from watching embedded videos during the first 24 hours of release. Please also remember to log into a YouTube account before watching embedded videos, or the views will not be considered. The views on any official video with the song being the primary focus are considered for the Billboard charts. This includes official lyric videos provided by Big Hit, dance practice videos, TV performances, etc. During the first 24 hours, refrain from pausing, fast forwarding, or rewinding the music video consistently and/or excessively; however, it is fine if you pause or rewind some parts. According to YouTube, rewinding actually helps with ranking because it tells them that the video has some content worth rewatching. These rules are also applicable to YouTube Music, which is a paid service where one can download videos to watch offline. The music can be played in the background and the views will be added once online. IMPORTANT NOTE: United States Billboard charts only: It is generally accepted that listening to the song for at least 30 seconds will be regarded as a stream, and only 50 streams per day will be considered for every account. Why streaming on YouTube is important: YouTube has its own, unique trending list where the most popular videos of the time get featured and serve as a catered guide to whoever is looking to keep up with what is happening in their region. By streaming BTS’ music and performances, newer and bigger audiences across the world can be reached. Apart from promotion, streams from YouTube also count for the Billboard charts. As of January 3, 2020, views from licensed video content providers (e.g. HYBE LABELS) will count towards the Billboard 200 chart. NOTE: 1 album sale = 1,250 premium YouTube streams or 3,750 YouTube streams. Creating a YouTube playlist: Do’s and Don'ts There are few ways to make a YouTube Playlist: Through a Profile Go to your YouTube profile and click on “Video Manager.” Under Video Manager, click on “Playlists,” then select “New Playlist.” Name the playlist, and click “Create.” You can change the visibility settings for your playlist here as well. Navigating through YouTube To add a video to a playlist, select the “+” icon; it can either be added to an existing playlist or create a new one. Tips: Each video should link to the next and be related to a particular topic or theme (e.g. BTS Ballads). Consider the order to tell a story. Optimize the playlist for search by editing the title and description of your playlist. Add a compelling description that includes the keywords you want to target (e.g. Bangtan Boys, BTS, etc.). Choose an eye-catching thumbnail. Interact with the playlist at least once an hour by pausing, liking, commenting, etc. on videos. Don’ts: Please do not make the playlist for BTS music videos only. Add other content such as their collaborations, BANGTAN BOMBS, solo works, interviews, variety show appearances, EPISODES, etc. Views from playlists are added at a slower rate; thus, please do not use a playlist during the first 24 hours of release.

SHAZAM Shazam is a free music recognition application that can identify music based on a short sample being played from any source, for example the radio, television, and so on. It helps people discover information about music, such as the song title, album, artist, and lyrics. The application has become a handy tool not only for entertainment industry professionals but also for music consumers. How to Shazam: Download the Shazam app on iOS or Android; the app is also available for Apple Watch, Android Wear, and macOS. Open the Shazam app. Go to a music streaming platform of your choice on your phone or computer, and play any BTS song. Go back to the app, and tap the Shazam button in the middle of the screen. After the song has been identified, clear the app’s data in settings. On iPhone: Tap on “Shazams” under “My Music,” and click “Select” in the top right corner. Select all songs you want to delete from your “Shazams” list separately, then click on the garbage can icon in the bottom left corner. To delete all songs on your “Shazams” list at once, click on the garbage can icon without pre-selecting any songs and choose “Delete All.” On Android: Long hold on the Shazam icon on your home screen and tap “App Info,” tap on “Clear Data,” and then “Delete.” Data must be cleared after every Shazam for the additional Shazams to count. For the process to work continuously, Shazam only when you are not logged in; the Shazam(s) will then be counted after logging in. Repeat from step 3. NOTE: Clearing data is important because the same song will only be counted once per 24 hours; however, it is effective only on Android devices. A song can be Shazamed only once per day per device if done through an Apple product (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.). How to Auto Shazam: iOS DEVICES: Press and hold the Shazam app. Tap “Auto Shazam” from the menu. Once the Auto Shazam is enabled, a red bar with the word “Shazam” appears across the top of the screen. Once the song currently being played is recognized, an alert will be received. ALTERNATE METHOD: Auto Shazam can also be enabled by opening the Shazam app, and then long pressing the large button in the center. ANDROID DEVICES: Open the Shazam app. Tap “Library” in the upper left corner of the screen. Tap the settings icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Turn on “Auto Shazam.” The Auto Shazam notification will be seen in the notification bar. Remember to clear the Shazam app’s data after the song is identified. ALTERNATE METHOD: Auto Shazam can also be enabled by long pressing the Shazam button on the home screen of the app. Tips: Do not plug earphones or headphones into the streaming device (exception is an Android device), and make sure that the song is playing loud and clear. It is possible to Shazam songs playing through earphones or headphones when using an Android device. Android devices also have a Pop Up Shazam feature which allows users to Shazam songs playing in third party apps without having to go back to the Shazam app. To enable this feature, Open the Shazam app. Tap “Library” in the upper left corner of the screen. Tap the settings icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Turn on “Pop Up Shazam.” Tap the Shazam notification in the device’s notification bar to make the floating Shazam button appear. The button can be removed simply by dragging it to the bottom of the screen. To Shazam a song, just tap the button. Remember to clear the Shazam app’s data after the song is identified. Why Shazam is important: Radio stations often use Shazam to gauge interest and trends. This varies depending on the region and radio station, but it can be helpful to use Shazam in conjunction with other streaming platforms in order to promote BTS’ music.

APPLE MUSIC Apple Music is Apple’s music streaming service. Audio files can be streamed or downloaded for offline play, and there are also song and genre-based radio stations available. Apple Music integrates with one’s existing iCloud Music Library to combine Apple Music songs with songs that you have previously purchased on iTunes. Apple Music is currently available on desktop, as well as on iOS and Android devices. How to stream purchased songs: NOTE: This section is only applicable if the song has been purchased on the iTunes Store. Open the Apple Music app. Search for the purchased song. Click and hold the song for dropdown options. Select “Remove,” then select “Delete From Library.” It is now possible to stream the purchased song! How to make a playlist: NOTE: If making a playlist with a purchased song is desired, see the “How to stream purchased songs” section. iOS DEVICES: Open the Apple Music app. Search for the song or album to stream. Click the “More Options” button for each individual song to be added to the playlist for dropdown options to appear. Select “Add to a Playlist.” Select “New Playlist.” Name the playlist. Adding a photo and description is optional but recommended. Select “Add Music.” Add more music by clicking on the red “+” icon. To add duplicates of songs, continue clicking on the “+” icon. Select “Add Again” when prompted. Once all the songs have been added into the desired playlist, drag the songs into the desired order by holding the three lines on the right hand side. ANDROID DEVICES: Open the Apple Music app. Search for the song or album to stream. Click the “More Options” button for each individual song to be added to the playlist for dropdown options to appear. Select “Add to a Playlist.” Select “New Playlist.” Name the playlist. Adding a photo and description is optional but recommended. Select “Add Music.” Add more music by clicking the red outlined box. NOTE: To add a new song to an existing playlist, simply drag and drop the desired song to the desired playlist in the sidebar. How to stream using a playlist: NOTE: Playlists are ideal for streaming. If help is needed to make one, see section “How to make a playlist.” Open the Apple Music app. Go to “Library.” Click on “Playlists.” Select a playlist to stream. IMPORTANT NOTE: Songs purchased on iTunes but streamed on Apple Music will not be counted, as only songs played from a paid or free trial Apple Music subscription are considered as valid streams; however, each time a song is played from the Apple Music Library, it is counted as a stream. Tips: Music videos can also be purchased on iTunes and streamed on Apple Music. If songs or music videos were purchased on iTunes, they must be deleted from the library and streamed directly from Apple Music for the streams to count; however, the track or video does not need to be purchased again. Avoid bot-like behavior. Do not loop a song or use only one playlist. Interact with the app by skipping songs, changing playlists, and so on. Remixes, instrumental versions, and music videos of a song can be added in the same playlist. Although the streams from different versions contribute to different charts on Apple Music, all the streams contribute to a single position of the main song on Billboard. Each play over 30 seconds, whether downloaded or not, is counted as a stream no matter where it is being played from if the song is an Apple Music file or sourced from Apple Music. When creating track focused playlists, add 1 - 2 other songs in between two consecutive focus tracks to avoid filtering of streams. To create an “on-the-fly playlist” for streaming, use Apple Music’s queue or up next feature. Share the song’s lyrics on various social media platforms by tapping the “More Options” button, then choosing “Share Lyrics.” Share the music on various social media platforms by tapping the “More Options” button, then choosing “Share Music.” Suggestion for iPhone users: To prevent automatic download of new or free purchases made on other devices: Go to “Settings” on your device. Select “iTunes & App Store.” Turn off “Automatic Downloads” for “Music” and “Cellular Data.” Why streaming on Apple Music is important: Streaming on Apple Music is important for many music charts, including Billboard, as it helps boost BTS’ sales. Furthermore, popular tracks on the streaming service receive more exposure to the general public. NOTE: Stream Equivalent Albums (SEAs) with 1,250 paid platform streams = 1 album sale.
